My grandson and I had a great time at the latest Disney holiday animation hit RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET.
Loaded with laughs, some sweet moments and enough inside jokes, meta moments and hidden characters to give "Ready Player One" a run for its Easter Egg dominance, its fun for kids and adults alike.
It's six years after the events of "Wreck It Ralph" and Ralph (John C. Reilly) and his best buddy Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) have settled into their everyday routine of repeated roles in video games all day and hanging out at night. It's the same thing every day. But Vanellope is getting a little restless.
When the old time arcade they are in suddenly plugs in wi-fi, they are plunged into a whole new world of opportunity and choices.
Ralph loves things the same, Vanellope loves discovery, so the film sets up some nice lessons on change & friendship.
Along with the journey, there are some great sequences in an intense driving game where we meet Shank (Gal Gadot) and her gang.
The entire Disney (and hilariously beyond) gallery of Princesses play a key role in the film. The amazing thing is that all of the original voice artists return as their iconic characters, bringing moments back from some of the biggest Disney films of the past 50 years. It's perfectly handled, while questioning the iconic female heroine role with humor and a current touch.
Returning favorites Calhoun (Jane Lynch) and Felix (Jack McBrayer) deliver laughs.
While the conclusion threatens to be a little too intense (at least for my nearly 5 year old grandson) as Ralph develops a virus that threatens the internet, Disney mixes in just the right amount of humor to keep all ages laughing.
It's a visual feast for the eyes and my grandson and I enjoyed it in 3D. I lost count of the number of times he reached out to the screen to touch a thrown football or Disney character leaning out from the screen.
Fun family entertainment for the holidays, RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET is sure to break some box office records for Thanksgiving weekend 2O18. It's not a Disney ground-breaker like last year's "Coco", but its lightweight fun for all ages.
It gets a solid B from my buddy and I.
