Wolfen

This 1981 thriller (environmental drama? werewolf movie? horror flick?) has been a guilty pleasure of mine for over 30 years now. From the director of "Woodstock" Michael Wadleigh and 80's alien abduction guru Whitley Streiber, WOLFEN is freaky fun. Albert Finney is a NYC detective on the trail of a series of grisly murders that somehow link Manhattan high society with the dregs of New York. Gerry Fisher's photography is excellent capturing the NYC skyline (complete with many now-haunting shots of the twin towers) and the early 80's projects ruins in the outer borough where our killers live.

Don't look for lots of answers or common sense here, just great music from James Horner, great photography and a funny debut from Gregory Hines in his first role chasing murderous wolves (?).

WOLFEN scares up a fascinating B.
