Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

I thought the original Robert Downey Jr./Sherlock Holmes movie was a muddled mess, so I didn't go into it's 2011 sequel, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" with any excitement.

Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a very entertaining two hours.

Downey is as charming as ever, Jude Law is very good as Dr. Watson, Noomi Rapace is a great addition as gypsy Madam Simza and Jared Harris (David Robert Jones for "Fringe" fans) is a quiet, intimidating and formidable Moriarty. The plot is almost indecipherable, the editing is frantic beyond all reason, but director Guy Ritchie brings so much damn style to this thing, it won me over. Highlights were the escape through the forest, a fantastic train sequence and nearly all the dialogue between Holmes and Watson. It might be elementary that my appreciation was generated by low expectations, but I deduct a B for Sherlock & company.
