It's always great around the holidays to revisit John Hughes' PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. Steve Martin is straight & serious businessman Neal Page, thrust together with shower curtain ring salesman Del Griffith (John Candy) on the road as they try to get home for Thanksgiving. There are so many hilarious moments in this 80's comedy. Candy and Martin waking up together hugging after being forced to share a bed "Those aren't pillows! How 'bout those Bears...." Candy driving the wrong way on the freeway, Martin's battle with a rental car agency clerk (Edie McLurg), they're all great scenes and probably the best film showcase of Candy's talents. It's a funny ride with a sweet and warm holiday ending. Martin & Candy are a terrific pair, trading intelligent dialogue and pratfalls all the way from NYC to Chicago. Look for Kevin Bacon, Dylan Baker and William Windom in small but funny roles. A holiday tradition that gets an A each and every holiday season.
